FAQ

A. The Byodo-In Temple in O’ahu is a smaller-scale replica of the almost 1,000-year-old Byodo-In Temple, a United Nations World Heritage site in Uji, Japan. It is a religious site located within the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park cemetery with memorialization options.  Behind the Amida Buddha is a columbarium where niches hold cremated remains in urns.  We also have an ash garden where cremated remains can be scattered.  For more information regarding these services please contact our family services team at (808)239-8811.

A. Because the Byodo-In Temple is a place of prayer and meditation, as well as where memorial services are often conducted, we do request that visitors dress appropriately (no beach attire) and behave as you would in a place of worship (no running, yelling, throwing rocks, climbing trees, bothering wildlife, etc.).

A. We do not permit outside fish food to prevent overfeeding of our fish. But fish food can be purchased in the gift shop.

A. Pets are not allowed at the temple, except for service animals meeting the ADA requirements. Currently, Emotional Support Animals (ESA) are not covered by the ADA or Hawaii laws.

A. We welcome all visitors to take photos of this beautiful temple and its surround grounds. Photos taken with personal phones or personal handheld cameras do not require a permit.

Permits are required for all planned individual or group photo shoots, whether personal or professional, such as graduation, family portraits, special events, etc. For more information, contact our gift shot at (808) 239-9844 or download the permit reservation form now.

A. We host several local artists on an ongoing weekly basis. In addition, we often host large events for the pubic to enjoy where we celebrate religious and cultural holidays, such as Ching Ming and Chung Yeung, Easter, Mother’s Day, etc. View our events page to find out about upcoming events and ceremonies.

A. If you would like to become an approved vendor at the Byodo-In Temple, fill out this artist/vendor form. Admission charges may apply.

A. We offer a beautiful venue for hosting weddings, anniversary parties, and more. In addition, our location provides the perfect backdrop for many movies and TV series shoots.
